Job Description

  • This role will be based in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo

Our client is a leading player in the wood industry, specializing in sustainable forestry and wood product manufacturing. With a strong commitment to environmental responsibility and innovation, They are seeking a dynamic and experienced General Manager to lead their wood trading operations in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo.

Reporting to the Senior Managing Director, you will be responsible for carrying out the below duties:

  • Responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s operation in Congo, that involve profitability, sustainability and operational execellence
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement business strategies to drive growth and profitability in the wood production and processing operations
  • Lead the company in achieving its goals while maintaining a commitment to sustainability and responsible forestry practices
  • Commercial Development: Identify and capitalize on new business opportunities to expand the company’s market presence in Congo and beyond
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to ensure alignment with business objectives and market demands
  • Operational Management: Oversee day-to-day operations with a team of 1000+ employees, including production, supply chain, and logistics, ensuring efficiency and adherence to company standards
  • Financial Oversight: Drive cost-reduction initiatives while ensuring product quality and market competitiveness
  • Manage the financial performance of the company, including budgeting, cost control, and profitability analysis

10 years of proven working experience as a General Manager in the wood industry or in a agribusiness trading sector
Master’s degree in Management with a specialization in Forestry or Agri commodities is preferred
3 years of working experience in a Commercial leadership role, covering the wood or timber sector in the Congo or African market
Strong knowledge of sustainable forestry practises and wood processing is preferred
Fluency in French & English is required
Excellent communication and leadership skills is preferred
This role will be based in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo
Proven track record in managing large-scale wood operations
